Liven vs StartKick

Thinking about Liven? Read its small print first. We did.

Liven and StartKick start the same way: a quiz, a plan, a short trial that turns into a yearly plan. The difference is what happens to your money and your answers afterwards. Here is both, line by line, with the sources. Checked on 25 October 2026.

The bill

A year

Liven"Yearly with Trial" $89.99 / £89.99. "Yearly Premium" without the trial: $59.99 or $49.99. The trial route costs 50 to 80% more than the plain yearly plan.S1, S2

StartKick$29, £29 or €29 for the first year, then $59, £59 or €59 a year. The price includes tax and is the number Stripe charges.S8

Keep the weekly plan for a year

LivenAbout $415 (52 × $7.99).S1

StartKick$59.

How the price is set

LivenLiven: it "varies depending on subscription type, region, and device". Reviewers add that it also depends on your quiz answers.S3, S4

StartKickThe same price for everyone in a currency. You see it before checkout.

What renewal costs

LivenThe "then-current Subscription rate" (Terms, 5.1). No number is fixed.S5

StartKick"The regular yearly price shown before checkout."S8

Warning before renewal

LivenNot promised. The store page says you are charged "within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period".S1

StartKickAn email when the trial starts. On the yearly plan, a reminder before it renews.S9

Extras

LivenLivie, the AI coach, is charged separately. A workbook bundle ($19.99) is offered right after you pay; close it and a pop-up offers a bigger discount.S4, S7

StartKickThe coach is included. One optional pack of 500 extra coach messages for $5, £5 or €5, one payment, nothing renews.

The small print

How to cancel

LivenThree answers. The Terms: "by contacting our customer support team via email". The App Store page: in your App Store settings. Liven’s replies on Trustpilot: Profile → Settings → Membership.S5, S1, S6

StartKickOne tap under Your plan in the app, or at link.com. No email, no call.S9

Refunds

LivenThe Terms point to a "Money-Back Guarantee policy" that is not on the page. We could not find it published. To App Store reviewers the developer says refunds can only go through Apple.S5, S1

StartKickForgot to cancel? Ask within 24 hours of your first payment and we refund it in full. It is written in the Terms.S8

Who you are dealing with

LivenChesmint Limited, a flat in Limassol, Cyprus. Terms under Estonian law. Disputes in individual arbitration under English or Delaware law, class actions waived. One clause points to a "Section 19.a" that does not exist. Neither the Terms nor the Privacy Policy carries a "last updated" date.S5, S10

StartKickAndrej Sinkovič s.p., Ljubljana, Slovenia. Slovenian law, and your consumer rights where you live stay in place. One email address, answered by the person who built it.S8

Your answers

LivenThe quiz asks about stress and emotional distance in your childhood. The Privacy Policy never says what happens to quiz answers. It names Facebook, Google and Amplitude as recipients of your data and says "We and our partners use your personal data to tailor ads". No retention periods. Do Not Track is ignored.S11, S10

StartKickYour answers, tasks and result never go to Meta or Google. Meta learns that someone viewed a page, left an email or paid, nothing more. In the EU, the EEA and the UK nothing is measured until you allow it.S12

What the stores are told

LivenThe Google Play listing says the app "doesn’t share user data with other companies or organizations". The Privacy Policy names three. An independent scan of the iOS app (NowSecure, 2025) found missing privacy declarations, a permission to track you, and camera and microphone access.S13, S10, S14

StartKickA web app. No store account, no camera, no microphone, no tracking permission. Delete everything with one email.S12
